Sisters in Cinema is a student organization at the University of Michigan that advocates for more diverse representation in the media and film industries. As the social media and marketing chair, I create flyers, social media posts, social media strategy, and brand guidelines for our club. While the guidelines give basic structure and recognizability to the social media and online presence of Sisters in Cinema, the goal of our print materials is to grab outsiders' attention and raise awareness.
Creating the SIC Brand
Prior to my being the marketing chair, Sisters in Cinema had no brand guidelines. The club was less that a year old when I joined, and once I was appointed to my position, I knew it was important to develop a recognizable personality for the SIC brand so that the club could gain interest and familiarity on campus. Using the original logos and mission statement from when the club was founded, I created a SIC color scheme, typography guide, and brand voice that reflected the organization's values and goals.
SIC Event Flyers
With the energetic environment of a student organization comes the opportunity for creative liberty and experimentation. Using the SIC brand guidelines as a jumping off point, I combined culturally relevant graphics with geometric configurations to create intriguing eye-paths and strategic hierarchies of text. Since joining the club in 2018, my designs have reached over 2,000 U-M faculty and staff, effectively garnering recognizability for Sisters in Cinema on campus.
